Your Time exists to support young people aged 17-25 into sustained employment. Improving the employability of young people is something that we have prided ourselves on for many years. This project works with a variety of young people but has a particular focus on helping young people with a background of offending.
All too often we have young people come to us saying, “Employers say they want us to have experience, but how do we get experience?” To help with this, we offer valuable work experience through our social enterprises and with the variety of employers we have connected with. This means young people can get the experience of a real working environment whilst being managed by a youth worker.
There are also times when a young person’s barrier to employment isn’t as clear as qualifications or experience. Sometimes it’s underneath the surface. It could be low confidence, social anxiety, or naïvety about what is expected from them when in a job. Through using the youth work approach, we can enable young people to gradually overcome these barriers and reach their goal of being employed.
