Acoustic Café

The AC, as it is known locally, is run by a group of young volunteers at the YMCA who have a love of guitar based music. Through their commitment and with its focus on music the café has become a venue where local teenagers can come and relax with their friends and young bands and musicians can play and perform their material.

The café runs weekly on Thursdays and Saturdays in the Y centre and regularly attracts twenty to thirty young people. This relaxed environment is a natural place for chat and conversation to occur and is an ideal place for young people to access help and advice from the volunteers and adult helpers if they feel the need.

All of the young volunteers have undergone learning about peer support and this has been a catalyst for some of the young people deciding to pursue an SVQ in Youth Work.
